SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

Environmental Support Systems, Inc. (ESS) works with several companies to develop high pressure
gas and hydraulic control systems. In 1992 ESS was contracted to America Cubed, the Americas cup defender to develop the hydraulic servo systems for a twin rudder boat. While the twin rudder design proved too an extensive effort for the time allowed, we developed a "variable foil" for the trim tab. The variable foil proved to be so successful that the cup committee disallowed the design on technicalities. What we learned from the variable foil we applied to the standard foil . That was the last time a USA team was successful in defending or regaining the cup. ESS is currently working on hydraulic compliance control systems.
